TRAVEL

The ISBS 2009 conference is being hosted at the University of Limerick just outside the city of Limerick in the west of Ireland. The most convenient airport to fly into is Shannon Airport which is located approximately 35 minutes (24km North-West) from the University campus.

Shannon Airport
There will be a hosted desk at Shannon airport from 9am to 9pm on the day prior to the conference to meet all delegates as they arrive. This desk will be located just after baggage collection in the main arrivals area. With only one small terminal at this airport delegates will be sure to see the desk!

Please include your flight details on the conference registration form so that helpers can be at the airport at the times when it best suits you.

Helpers will direct you to scheduled public buses and taxis to share. Taxis from the airport will take delegates directly to their accommodation. Public buses will travel to the Limerick city bus station where a short 5 minute taxi journey will take delegates to their accommodation if on campus. A poster stand at the front entrance to the city bus station will direct delegates to shared taxis. An other option is to rent a car which is a good option if you are planning to travel around Ireland.

Bus Éireann buses depart frequently in the morning and afternoon from Shannon airport with a reduced service after 6pm. Journey time from Shannon to Limerick is about forty minutes. The bus operates from 06.45 to midnight. The price for an adult one way ticket is €5 and return is €8. There is a reduction offered to students.
Arriving at Dublin Airport
Dublin Airport is about 200 km from Limerick. If delegates arrive in Dublin then they can travel to Limerick either by bus or train. Alternatively, you can rent a car or fly from Dublin to Shannon Airport. Travelling by train is more expensive than by bus but is faster. The train journey from Dublin to Limerick costs approximately €40 for a single ticket and €50.00 for a return ticket while the same journey by bus costs approximately €14 for a single ticket and €22.50 for a return ticket. The trip from Dublin to Limerick takes approximately 4 hours by bus and 2.5 hours by train. The bus and train timetables are available online. The bus to Limerick departs from the Central Bus Station located in the city centre of Dublin. The train to Limerick departs from Heuston train station. Airport buses 747 and 748 bring you from Dublin Airport to both Heuston train station and the Central Bus Station.
